Tuesday Aug 06, 2013
Tuesday Aug 06, 2013
Dr. Stella Resnick, a well known author – “The Pleasure Zone” and “The Heart of Desire” – and a Certified Sex Therapist, was the guest. She and Dr. Diana looked at The Evolution of Sex Therapy since Masters & Johnson – how the field has expanded beyond a focus on sexual dysfunction to an emphasis on sexual health, pleasure, and a respect for diversity. Virginia Johnson, the collaborator with Dr. William Masters, died July 26th. Inspired by her death, our program looked back and forward regarding Sex Therapy. Dr. Stella is articulate! Among her wise observations is that as sex therapists, we challenge our clients to evolve themselves through sexual pleasure! One goal of this program is to help us so that we are in a sexually smarter place, and Dr. Stella contributed to that effort . Please go to www.DrStellaResnick.com to learn more.

Jules Black, M.D., an internationally renowned OBGYN, is the author of “BODY TALK – An A-Z guide to women’s health” (published in Australia and not available in the U.S.). This is a book with thoughtful insight and provocative information. Dr. Jules and Dr. Diana discussed many things – focusing on the medical and gynecological aspects of sex therapy: dyspareunia (pain with intercourse), teaching masturbation, orgasms, sexuality and pregnancy, and HPV. Diana heard his wonderful lecture at the WORLD ASSOCIATION for SEXOLOGY in Japan in 1995. Many of the topics came from her notes at the conference. Dr. Jules Black explained the word “obstetrics” – from the Latin word meaning “to stand before.” This is how he sees his role, an observer, helping women to birth rather than delivering their babies for them. His object is to try to do things for women, not to women! Dr. Jules is a jewel…Tune in!

Love, Lust, and Laughter - Dr. Nancy Dreyfus - 06/18/13
Tuesday Jun 18, 2013
Tuesday Jun 18, 2013
Dr. Nancy Dreyfus, author of the groundbreaking book “TALK TO ME LIKE I’M SOMEONE YOU LOVE,” returned to the program for the third time. The theme: NO “BODY” TO LOVE…SEX AND BODY IMAGE. She spoke of her own spiritual journey in coming to terms with vaginal pain and how she presented the news to the men in her life…a real example of the dictum that people treat you as you treat yourself…Dr. Nancy shared, ”The more comfortably and less apologetically I presented my condition, the more receptive and responsive have been my lovers.” Dr. Diana asked how does a woman’s image of her body affect her sexuality, and her relationship with her partner. She may lose her sensitivity to her partner…such preoccupation with one’s own anatomy may represent a self-defeating form of sexual narcissism. In order to love another, it’s important to respect his choice of you as a worthy lover. Have the conversation, woman to man: this is my shame, my unattractive features. He recognizes her vulnerability, does not necessarily give assurance, and says, “Thank you.”

Love, Lust, Laughter - Dr. Nancy Dreyfus - 05/21/13
Tuesday May 21, 2013
Tuesday May 21, 2013
Dr. Nancy Dreyfus – www.NancyDreyfus.com – returned to the program. In March she and Dr. Diana focused on her groundbreaking book TALK TO ME LIKE I’M SOMEONE YOU LOVE. The bridge to this show is that it’s extra challenging to reach out and connect when sexual vulnerability is present. Sexual pain, often described as vulvodynia (www.nva.org), makes intercourse painful and leaves many women feeling stoic and ashamed. Dr. Nancy spoke of her own vaginal pain and the spiritual path that ensued. What do women want? Nancy Dreyfus who shared her experience from wound to wisdom stated: Women want to feel let in…by a man who is willing to be vulnerable. The woman needs to listen and respect if he says he needs to be temporarily in his “cave,” for example. This show is jam-packed with insights and excellent information – for women and the partners who love them!
